Lucy Aphramor invited me to run this little workshop for Coventry Peace Festival. Here's the blurb. Please pass it on.
Two one hour sessions: 11-midday/2-3pm
Saturday 23 October 2010
The Herbert, Jordans Well, Coventry, UK
For many people, the only way to get off the diet and weight loss merry-go-round is to somehow embrace your body and learn to love yourself. But loving your body isn't as simple as it seems; many of us can still feel that we've failed if we're unable to 'embrace our curves,' even though we live in cultures that try to undermine positive body image at every turn, and where a war on obesity is in full force.
In this workshop we'll try and work out together what it really means to find peace in your own body. We'll share stories and ideas and think about practical ways to feel better in ourselves, in our activism and in our communities. People of all sizes and backgrounds are encouraged to come along and join in during the morning (11-12) or afternoon (2-3) session.
Charlotte Cooper, a fat activist and researcher, with an interest in Peace Studies, will facilitate the discussion.
This event is part of Coventry Peace Festival 2010. It's free to attend and light refreshments will be available.
Please RSVP at the Facebook Event page Workshop: Making Peace With Your Body and repost widely.
