Cranking up the fat panic on a slow news day

News just in from the obesity boffins:

We need to be doing a lot more to reverse the global trend towards fatness, and recognise it as a key factor in the battle to reduce emissions and slow climate change.

You really couldn't make this up.

Edited to add: oooh, nice response!

If the 1970s were so slim and healthy, does that mean we should all start snorting cocaine and indiscriminately sleeping around again? And bring back disco music? Disco -- talk about your noxious emissions!

I know, let's bring back poor houses and plagues and get rid of child labor laws -- people were nice and then back then, too!

I do more for the environment by being vegetarian than any thin, meat-eating person who drives a hybrid vehicle. What lazy journalism.

Absolutely. If one is seriously concerned about climate change, the single most important change you can make in your own life is to go vegan (or vegetarian at least).

I'd been so pleased with my carbon footprint after I gave up my car, until I researched more and realized that my diet was essentially like driving an SUV everywhere. I went vegan soon after I read that.

I always secretly believed and I, personally, were responsible for global warming *headesk*
